FROM TRASH TO TREASURE

Since we started making backpacks in 2018, we have continuously expanded our product range and the materials we use. Our recycled PET fabric, made from ocean-bound plastic waste, now has its own name: RE:PET. Discover more about the key materials used in our products on this page.

RE:PET

RE:PET is our recycled polyester fabric. It is made from PET bottles collected through GOT BAG Indonesia's clean-up program and other local organizations that are Ocean Bound Plastic certified. The collected PET is processed by our recycling partner in Indonesia. In our commitment to creating a positive impact, we transform discarded plastic into our RE:PET fabric, which we use in most of our products.

We use RE:PET in the following products, among others:

RE:PC®

RE:PC® is a recycled polycarbonate made from retired water dispenser containers. These containers are not typically found in the plastic waste collected through our GOT BAG Indonesia clean-up program. We therefore source this material from our recycling partner in Indonesia. If you have ever been to regions like Southeast Asia, you probably know that drinking water often comes in bottles or from water dispensers with reusable containers. Despite their reusability, these containers eventually reach the end of their lifecycle and can be recycled. Collected within a 50 km radius of the coastline, RE:PC® is Ocean Bound Plastic certified and not only recycled, but also a very lightweight and durable material, making it ideal for luggage shells and even sunglasses.

We use RE:PC® in the following products, among others:

RE:NYNET®

RE:NYNET® is a fabric made from recycled nylon, produced from retired fishing nets. To do this, our recycling partner in Taiwan, Formosa Chemicals & Fibre Corporation, collects retired fishing nets from local manufacturers and purchases nets no longer in use from fishing companies. In a technically demanding recycling process, the fishing nets are chemically broken down into their original molecular components. New yarn is then produced from these components. Unlike PET, nylon (PA66) can only be recycled chemically to produce yarn. This gives it the same quality properties as new nylon. We use RE:NYNET® for products that benefit from the material's light weight, soft touch, and brilliant colors.
